Zadar county police spokeswoman Ivana Grbin said the investigation covered several persons but would not reveal more details, citing confidentiality.

According to unofficial reports, a number of persons were arrested and their homes were searched on Thursday and Friday.

Zadar county police received a call this past Monday alerting them to offensive graffiti at the entrance to the village of Ceranje Donje, Pupovac's place of birth. The words "Kill Serbs" were sprayed over the road sign bearing the village's name and a poster with a photograph of Pupovac and a text accusing him of terror and describing him as a "Greater Serbian madman" was displayed nearby.
