The 31-year-old Syrian man was speeding in a car in Veliki Prolog around 2 am on Sunday when he struck a hillside and turned over on the roof. Police found him at the scene of the accident and took him in. The man was not injured in the accident.

The investigation found that earlier that night, in the village of Orah, he had stolen the car which was parked outside a garage with the key left in the lock.

MP Miro Bulj of the opposition Bridge party, speaking on Monday during a visit to Vrgorac, drew attention to the growing number of car thefts in the area committed by illegal migrants. He said that responsibility for the damage caused by illegal migrants lay with the state, calling for stricter border controls. He said that the people in that part of Croatia were facing a threat to their security.
