The Croatian Police Union (SPH) said on Tuesday they insisted on raising the wage index for officers who graduated from secondary school from 0.8 to 1 and that, if their needs were not met, they would resort to all legal means of industrial action, including a strike.

We will not forget the police officers with university degrees and state administration employees either, the SPH said in a press release.

If negotiations with public services’ unions fail, the SPH said they would insist on the wage index of 1 as their goal. “We will achieve it, possibly in the continuation of the negotiations with the employer. That is the agreement in principle we have with the relevant ministry.”

The SPH said they would resort to industrial actions if their needs were not met. “Still, we hope we won’t be forced to go on strike in critical moments… during the holidays, when traffic across the border is higher and public Christmas and New Year events need to be secured. That depends solely on the government’s willingness to talk.”
