The US remains the most important international partner and ally of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said Sarajevo Mayor Abdulah Skaka who attended this year's Prayer Breakfast in Washington, hosted by US President Donald Trump.

“This is a great event, not only in the US, and it is important that the City of Sarajevo as the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina is part of it. It is our duty to promote Sarajevo, which holds special symbolism and weight at the global level due to its centuries-old tradition of closeness of people of different religions and identities, which is why it was a target of the longest siege of the history of humanity,” said the mayor, adding that this is among other things the reason why Sarajevo is part of this event.

The US remains Bosnia’s most important international partner and ally, he emphasised.

“In the year which marks the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement (which ended the 1992-95 Bosnian war) and 25 years since Srebrenica genocide, this (partnership) will be further confirmed and the alliance strengthened,” said Skaka.

Sarajevo Mayor attended the Prayer Breakfast at the invitation of the US Congress along with leaders officials, entrepreneurs, activist and influential figures from all parts of the world.

The event was also attended by Zeljka Cvijanovic, the President of Republika Srpska, Bosnia’s Serb-dominated region.
