The 38th case of coronavirus in Croatia was confirmed on Saturday and it is a person who arrived from a competition in Romania, Health Minister Vili Beros said, adding that the patient was hospitalised at Zagreb's Fran Mihaljevic.

He was speaking at the daily press conference of the national civil protection authority.

Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic said the situation in Europe with the spread of the virus was deteriorating, with the number of those infected rising in both the EU and Croatia, adding that Croatia was taking every measure to slow it down.

The measures are intensive both in terms of epidemiology and the situation on the borders, he added.

Bozinovic said Croatia was introducing a special regime for truck drivers bringing goods into the country, adding that supply must not be brought into question.

The police will help sanitary services and the cooperation is already good, he added.

He also said the authorities would look into fake news on the spread of the virus.
