In the last 24 hours, there have been 21 new infections with coronaviorus in Slovenia and no death related to this disease, the Slovenian government said on Thursday, adding that the peak of the epidemic in that country is now over.
The number of the confirmed positive cases in Slovenia stands at 1,269, and to date 61 people diagnosed with Covid-19 have died. The number of patients treated in intensive care wards has gone down lately.
On Wednesday, 99 Covid-19 patients were treated in hospitals, and six were discharged. Since the start of the epidemic, 174 patients diagnosed with the virus have been discharged from Slovenian hospitals.
This infection has seriously affected several homes for seniors in Slovenia, and the most difficult situation was in nursing homes in Ljutomer, Smarje pri Jelsah and Melika, however the country’s health authorities said today that the situation was improving there, too.
Out of 112 homes for senior citizens, a total of 90 them managed to fend off the virus. As many as 20,000 residents are in those institutions, the labour and family affairs minister, Janez Cigler Kralj, told today’s news conference in Ljubljana.
The Covid-19-related death rate in homes for seniors does not differ significantly from death rates in such institutions during seasonal infections, the country’s health authorities said.
