Slovenia's government said on Sunday that out of 685 samples tested for the coronavirus infection on Saturday, 13 had been positive, bringing the total number of COVID-19 patients to 1,330.

The death toll rose by four to 74. Currently, 90 patients are being treated in hospitals and of them, 26 are in the intensive care units.

On Saturday, two patients were discharged, and currently, Slovenia has 192 recoveries from this infection.

Since the outbreak of the disease, 40,580 samples have been tested in Slovenia.

Next week, Slovenia will conduct serology testing among 1,000-1,500 residents of various ages in different parts of the country in a bid to estimate the proportion of the population that has caught the virus to date.

The findings will serve as the basis for the authorities’ decision on when to lift the containment measures imposed to curb the spread of the infection.

Slovenia’s chief epidemiologist has said already that some mathematical calculations show that during various stages of the epidemic, a total of 10,000 residents have caught the virus, however, only a few hundred are considered to be still virus carriers.

A large majority have overcome the infection without any symptoms, according to the chief epidemiologist in Slovenia.

The health authorities in that country believe that the epidemic is now under control and the gradual lifting of restrictions could ensue with the compliance with social distancing measures.
