The White Ribbon Day was marked in Zagreb, in memory of the victims of crimes in Prijedor and the Sana River Valley in 1992, Anadolu news agency reported Sunday, adding that the event was organized by the Council of the Bosniak National Minority of the City of Zagreb (VBNMGZ) in cooperation with the Homeland Club of the Stara Rijeka and Surroundings parish.

Over a hundred Zagreb residents with white ribbons on their forearms gathered on Zagreb’s Ban Jelacic square, handing flyers to bystanders. This was the eighth time Zagreb residents gathered in solidarity with the victims of crimes that took place in Prijedor and Sana river valley.

The president of VBNMGZ, Armin Hodzic, recalled that over 3,000 people were killed in Prijedor and its surroundings, including 102 children, while over 30,000 people from that area were held in concentration camps.

Dzana Kahteran-Hodzic, whose parents are originally from Prijedor, has been participating in the marking of the White Ribbon Day in Zagreb since the very beginning, in 2013.

She said her goal as a young person is to pass on to the public and future generations what exactly happened in Prijedor during the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia, given that there are individuals who deny historical facts.

“They’re trying to prove that there was no aggression, not only against Bosniaks but against the entire non-Serb population. All of us who continue to come here are trying to tell the future generations, younger and older people and all those who have not heard of Prijedor, what had happened,” said Kahteran-Hodzic.
