Fifty-three new cases of the coronavirus infection have been confirmed in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the last 24 hours, its two entities' public health authorities reported on Wednesday, confirming a daily spike in new cases.

Laboratories in the Federation entity tested 527 samples, identifying 26 new cases, while the Serb entity tested 299, of which 27 were positive.

The areas with the largest increases in the number of cases are Kotor Varos with seven new cases, Zvornik with five and Bosanska Kostajnica with four new cases.

Since the end of May, when the epidemiological situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina became stable, the country has been registering a two-digit daily rise in the number of new cases, and there have been several new hotspots, such as Tesanj, Modrica and Zivinice.

The total number of coronavirus patients in the country since the outbreak has reached nearly 2,800, with a death toll of 156.

Authorities for now are not planning on reinstating restrictive measures, and as of Wednesday public transport in Sarajevo is fully operational again.
