Bosnia, Croatia climb, Serbia drops on Global Peace Index 2020

Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia have climbed up two positions on the Global Peace Index 2020 over the past year while Serbia dropped by one, according to the Sydney-based Institute for Economics and Peace said.

Bosnia is now ranked 79th of the 163 independent states and territories evaluated according to their level of peacefulness.

Croatia climbed the two positions it slipped the year and is again ranked 26th, as in 2018.

Serbia slipped by one position and is ranked 51st, while Montenegro slipped by two and is now ranked 69th.

North Macedonia climbed to position 62.

Slovenia, which used to be ranked 8th, is now 11th.

The report contains a comprehensive analysis of peace and its economic value.

Iceland is once again, according to the Index, the most peaceful state in the world – as was the case for the past 13 years. It’s followed by New Zealand, Austria, Portugal and Denmark.

Afghanistan is at the bottom of the list, followed by Syria, Iraq and South Sudan.
