Health Minister Vili Beros said in Split on Monday that today's number of new coronavirus infections, 34, was satisfactory as it was lower than in the past few days and that it indicated that the spread of the infection in Zadar had most likely been contained.

Speaking of the hotspot in Djakovo, he said the situation was very good as there were only seven new cases in the last 24 hours.

The minister said there were currently 466 active cases of infection in the country.

Beros said that since tourism was a very important industry, he was glad that “despite the opening of borders, we have managed to stay within the expected epidemiological framework, which is very important.”

He reiterated that the EU considered Croatia a safe country and that the UK Foreign Office put Croatia among countries from which UK nationals could return without restrictions or the obligation to self-isolate.

Beros said the healthcare system would not be locked down again unless necessary but that caution was necessary as the virus had entered the system recently. “Luckily, epidemiological services stopped it in time.”

He said that for now Djakovo would not be quarantined. “More than 500 suspicious persons have been tested there and the infection is not spreading at the moment.”
