Industrial production in the 27-strong European Union recovered in May, after the relaxation of lockdown measures, as evident in the figures presented by the EU statistical office, Eurostat.

“In May 2020, when Member States began easing the Covid-19 containment measures, the seasonally adjusted industrial production rose by 12.4 percent in the euro area and by 11.4 percent in the EU, compared with April 2020,” according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

In April 2020, industrial production fell by 18.2 percent both in the euro area and in the EU.

Croatia was one of the eight members that saw a drop in industrial output in May month on month. In May, Croatia’s industrial production contracted 3.5 percent after it fell by 5.6 percent in April.

The best performer was Ireland with a rise of 9.8 percent on the month.

In May 2020 compared with May 2019, industrial production decreased by 20.9 percent in the euro area and by 20.5 percent in the EU. In Croatia, the annual decrease was 12.4 percent.
