A total of 192 new coronavirus cases have been identified in Slovenia after 3,645 tests carried out in the last 24 hours, the Slovenian government said on Friday. No new deaths were reported.
This is the largest single-day increase in coronavirus infections since the start of the outbreak in the country in early March. The largest number of new cases recorded in a single day was previously reported last Thursday, when 137 fresh cases were confirmed.
This has brought the total number of confirmed infections to date to 5,007. Currently there are 1,509 active cases and 59 infected people are being treated for Covid-19 in hospitals, of whom 15 are in intensive care.
The country’s coronavirus death toll currently stands at 145.
A quarter of the new cases were registered in Ljubljana. The largest number of newly-infected people are aged between 45 and 54. Social events, such as birthday celebrations and private parties, were reported as the main sources of the virus spreading.
The coronavirus incidence rate in Slovenia is about 70 per 100,000 inhabitants, according to media reports.
