Exports in first eight months of 2020 down by 6.5 pct, imports down by 11.1pct

The value of Croatian commodity exports in the first eight months of 2020 was HRK 69.5 billion, 6.5% down from the same period of last year, while imports dropped by 11.1% to HRK 111.1 billion, according to the latest figures from the national statistical office.
The foreign trade deficit in the first eight months was down 17.9% from the same period of last year, totalling HRK 41.6 billion.
A total of HRK 48.5 billion worth of commodities was exported to EU member countries in the first eight months, a 3.4% drop from the same period of last year. Exports to non-EU members dropped by 13.1% to HRK 20.9 billion.
The value of commodity imports from EU member-countries dropped by 11.4% to HRK 89.1 billion while the value of imports from other countries dropped by 10% to close to HRK 22 billion.
Expressed in euros, Croatian commodity exports in the first eight months totalled €9.2 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 7.9%, while imports dropped by 12.4% to €14.8 billion.
The foreign trade deficit was €5.5 billion.
Exports to EU member-countries amounted to €6.5 billion or 4.7% less than in the same period of last year. At the same time, exports to non-EU countries dropped by 14.3% to €2.8 billion.
The value of imports from EU member-countries dropped by 12.7% from the first eight months of 2019, to €11.85 billion, while the value of imports from non-EU member-countries dropped by 11.3% to €2.9 billion.
Exports in first seven months down 7.1%, imports 11.5%
The statistical office also published the latest data on trade in the first seven months which show that exports, expressed in kuna, dropped by 7.1% to HRK 61.96 billion while imports dropped by 11.5% to HRK 98.8 billion.
This is a correction of the office's preliminary statistics which put the value of commodity exports in the first seven months at HRK 61.5 billion, 7.7% down from the same period of last year, while imports dropped by 11.9% to HRK 98.3 billion.
According to the latest data, the foreign trade deficit in the first seven months totalled HRK 36.8 billion, and the export-import coverage ratio was 62.7%.
Expressed in euros, exports in the first seven months dropped by 8.3% to €8.2 billion, while imports dropped by 12.7% to €13.1 billion.
The foreign trade deficit was €4.9 billion.
