The Social Democratic Party (SDP) on Monday afternoon expressed its concern at an attempted murder of a policeman employed in the security of the government and the parliament, and called for re-assessing the current model of the protection of the institutions in that square.

The strongest Opposition party on Monday afternoon issued a press release after the incident in Zagreb's uppertown square, and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded policeman who was undergoing surgery in a Zagreb hospital after the incident in which he sustained several gunshot wounds. The 22-year-old attacker committed suicide after that in a nearby street.

The SDP says it expects the competent authorities to reassess the current model of the protection of the state institutions in the square and the protection of the police engaged in the security of the buildings concerned.

The party also says that it is worried by the organisation of the Emergency Medical Service, since it read media reports that an ambulance with the driver only, that happened to be close to the scene, transported the wounded man to the hospital.
