Homeland Movement (DP) parliamentary deputy Stjepo Batulica said on Monday that security in St. Mark's Square, where buildings housing the government and parliament are located, was a sensitive issue and that those institutions were considerably exposed.
Bartulica explained that he deemed the security of the square to be a sensitive issue given that a lot of people like to have access to that place.
That is an accessible site, and this tragic event will prompt a great discussion on what to do, Bartulica said following a shooting in which a policeman engaged as security of the buildings was seriously wounded on Monday morning. Immediately after the incident, the attacker, a 22-year-old man, committed a suicide in a nearby street.
Bartulica said that it would be necessary to give great consideration to what to do after that tragic incident.
He declined to delve into the question of political responsibility, and added that it was not easy to predict such incidents.
Bartulica praised the police for doing a good job.
The parliamentarian expressed regret at the developments in the morning and said that the DP party was thinking of and praying for the wounded police officer and his family.
