At the end of September 2020, there were 1,528,717 persons in employment in Croatia, down 0.4% on the month and 3.6% on the year, and the registered unemployment rate was 8.8%, the national statistical office said on Tuesday.

Month on month, after increasing during the summer, the number of persons in employment decreased for the first time since May.

At the end of September, 147,434 persons were registered with the Croatian Employment service, 3,934 fewer than in August. On the year, the number of the jobless jumped by 31.2%.

The registered unemployment rate was 9% in August, dropping to 8.8% in September, an increase of 2.1 percentage points on the year. In September 2019, the registered unemployment rate was 6.7%.
