Croatian actor Goran Bogan has been nominated for the European Film Academy (EFA) award for the best European actor for his role in the film Otac ("Father") directed by Srdjan Golubovic.
Bogdan is the first Croatian to be nominated for this award.
Apart from him, other nominated actors are Pole Bartosz Bielenia, who plays the main role in “Corpus Christi”, Italian Elio Germano in the film “Hidden Away”, Italian Luca Marinelli in “Martin Eden”, Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen in “Another Round”, as well as Dane Viggo Mortensen in “Falling”.
Bogdan was quoted in a press release issued by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC) as saying that it was a great honour for him to be among the nominees for this year’s EFA award.
The film “Father” is about Nikola, a day laborer and father of two, who lives in a small town in Serbia and who is ordered to give up his children to social services after poverty and hunger drive his wife to commit a desperate act. Bogdan has received several awards for this role so far.
As a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic the 33rd European Film Awards will take place as a series of virtual events produced from the European Film Academy’s seat Berlin without an audience in the room. Every evening will see a livestream of “The EFAs at Eight”, celebrating the nominees and winners of the various categories of the 2020 European Film Awards.
The EFAs at Eight events will kick off on Tuesday, 8 December, at 20:00 and close with the grand finale on Saturday, 12 December, at 20:00, says the Academy on its website.
