Croatia's Foreign Minister Gordan Grlic Radman, and the Deputy Chairman of the House of Peoples of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Parliamentary Assembly, Dragan Covic, on Tuesday discussed Sunday's local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina and local elections in the city of Mostar, set for 20 December.

During the talks, which also focused on the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Grlic Radman and Covic expressed their satisfaction that the elections had been held according to the highest democratic standards despite the unprecedented health crisis caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs said in a press release.

They stressed the importance of local elections in Mostar also taking place in a democratic and tolerant atmosphere given that the last time the local elections were held there was 12 years ago.

Grlic Radman congratulated all local leaders elected among the Croat people in the country, saying that the election of legitimate political representatives at local level was of paramount interest to the Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He expressed hope that the Croat people in Bosnia and Herzegovina would also be able to freely and democratically elect their legitimate political representatives at the next parliamentary elections as well as the elections for the country’s tripartite presidency.

Covic thanked Grlic Radman for Zagreb’s continued support to the Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina in maintaining their political rights as a constituent people, as well as for financial assistance to important social institutions working to ensure the equal status of the Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
