The Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) on Thursday appealed to the government to take on most of the burden of saving jobs and bailing out the economy.

“We appeal to the government to take on most of the burden, although it can have possible consequences for public finances,” HGK underlined and added that it is “extremely important to to preserve the economy, in parallel to preserving human health .”

HGK notes that it is also making a contribution by deciding to waive membership fees for November and December for those businesses affected by the government’s restrictions.

HGK also proposed that similarly to the first wave of the epidemic, a moratorium be reintroduced on enforcement actions, tax debts, bank loans – particularly for those activities that will be affected the most by the latest measures.

“Hospitality is particularly affected and they need vital help to survive so that when the crisis ends they will be able to immediately resume business activities, hiring and finally, fill the state budget which now needs to keep them alive,” HGK said.
