Croatia won the bronze medal at the European Women's Handball Championship in Denmark on Sunday after beating the hosts 25-19.

It was the first medal for the Croatian national women’s handball team in major competitions. By entering the semi-final, Croatia automatically qualified for the World Women’s Handball Championship in Spain next year.

Croatia has not competed in world women’s handball championships since 2011. Their best showing was in Germany in 1994 when they finished fifth.

Norway and France face off in the final later on Sunday.
