18-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz won the ATP tournament in the northern Croatian Adriatic resort town of Umag on Sunday after defeating France's 35-year-old Richard Gasquet 6-2, 6-2 in the final.
This was the first ATP final for Alcaraz, who became the youngest winner of an ATP tournament after Kei Nishikori of Japan, who triumphed at 18 in Delray Beach in 2008, and Spain’s Rafael Nadal, who was victorious at 18 in Sopot in 2004.
It was the 32nd career final for Gasquet, who has won 15 titles. He was the second oldest finalist in Umag after Italy’s Paolo Lorenzi reached the final in 2017 at 35.
Brazilian Fernando Romboli and Spaniard David Vega Hernández won the doubles title after beating Nikola Cacic of Serbia and Tomislav Brkic of Bosnia and Herzegovina 6-3, 7-5. It was the first joint ATP title for Romboli and Hernández.
