To date 12 million overnight stays have been registered in August, or 93 percent of overnight stays generated in the corresponding period of August 2019, state agency Hina said on Thursday, citing a press release from the state tourism board HTZ.
Apart from the increase in the number of overnight stays, “tourist arrival trends in August 2021 are also excellent,” Hina said, with 1.6 million tourists arriving in Croatia in August so far, or 20 percent up from the same period in 2020, and amounting to 80 percent of the arrivals in the same period in 2019.
This means that current figures are about 30 percent down from 2019, the best ever year on record.
The HTZ said that this year a total of 8 million tourists visited Croatia and made 49 million overnight stays, up 46 percent and 37 percent respectively compared with the same period in 2020. Compared with the same period in 2019, however, this is 40 percent down in tourist arrivals and 30 percent down in overnight stays.
In 2019, more than 20 million holidaymakers had visited Croatia and generated over 109 million overnight stays which made Croatia cash in about €12 billion, making the tourism share in the country’s GDP stand at 20 percent, state agency Hina said.
