A €50 million polar expedition passenger ship, built for the Oceanwide Expeditions company, was launched at the Brodosplit shipyard on Thursday.
The vessel, named Janssonius, is 108.6 metres long and 17.6 metres wide and develops a speed of 15 knots. It will be able to host 194 passengers in 81 cabins who will be served by 78 crew members.
The Janssonius is the second vessel built for the Dutch company. The first one was the Hondiusa, which was delivered in 2019.
Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tomislav Coric said he was pleased that Brodosplit was among the shipyards capable of building polar cruise ships. He noted that about 70 percent of the ship’s equipment and material was Croatian-made.
Coric said that the construction of this ship was supported with state guarantees, adding that the government would continue to support the construction of new ships.
