Civil Protection director Damir Trut said on Tuesday recent protests against the COVID certificate mandate had not been announced, adding that police taped them and would take action if necessary.
If there are grounds for any sanctions, the police will act on it, he said on the Croatian Radio.
Asked about the commemoration of 30 years of the fall of Vukovar on Thursday, Trut said an “epidemiological framework” had been defined and that Civil Protection staff and COVID patrols would be on the ground to see that everything proceeded in the best way possible.
As for the COVID certificate mandate for all employees in state and public institutions as well as their customers as of today, Trut said checking the certificates was up to those organising the work.
He also commented on claims by the town leaders of Sinj and Primosten, Miro Bulj and Stipe Petrina, respectively, that they would disregard the COVID certificate mandate.
“We’ll see about that… Not many people are resisting. We have 576 units of local and regional government and that’s less than one percent. I think it won’t spread. A large part of those responsible for the population are behaving reasonably,” Trut said, adding that some local leaders were using the situation for self-promotion.
