The general government debt in March 2021 was 340 billion kuna (€45.4 billion), or 91.3 percent of GDP, a year-on-year increase of 17.6 percentage points from March 2020, state agency Hina reported, citing data released by the central bank on Wednesday.
The consolidated government debt, totaling 340 billion kuna (€45.4 billion), increased since December 2020 by 10.3 billion kuna (€1.4 billion), or 3.1 percent. Year-on-year, compared to the end of March 2020, the debt rose by 41.5 billion kuna (€5.5 billion), or 13.9 percent.
The increase is due mostly to the foreign debt component, which in Q1 2021 increased by 15.6 billion kuna (€2 billion, up by 14.7 percent) and over the past year by 21.3 billion kuna (€2.8 billion, up by 21.2 percent), the central bank said.
The external debt of the general government at the end of March 2021 totaled 121.6 billion kuna (€16.2 billion).
The domestic debt of the general government at the end of March this year amounted to 218.4 billion kuna (€29 billion), 2.4 percent or 5.3 billion kuna (€700 million) down from the end of 2020. However, year-on-year, it rose by 20.3 billion kuna (€2.7 billion) or 10.2 percent.
