The Ministry of Culture and Media has granted support for book publishing in the total amount of 7.9 million kuna for the programmes of 71 publishers within the call for financing public needs in 2022, and the approved financial grants range from 20,000 to 350,000 kuna.
A total of 151 applications were submitted to the call for financing public needs in culture in 2022 for the scheme of financial support for publishing books, and after the evaluation carried by the council for literary, publishing and book-selling activity in cooperation with the expert committee for children’s books, Culture and Media Minister Nina Obuljen Koržinek made a decision on to grant scheme supporting 71 publishers, the ministry said.
The approved financial grants will be used to co-finance the publication of at least 490 new titles, of which at least 85 are books for children and young people. Also, the production of six audio-books will be co-financed, as will the conversion of 150 published titles into the epub format.
The largest financial support, of 350,000 kuna, was granted to the publishers Fraktura, Hena Com, Naklada Ljevak, Sandorf and V.B.Z., each.
The evaluation criteria for the submitted programmes were the aesthetic value of the work, the relevance of the author, the professionalism of the applicant/publisher and meeting the priorities of the call.
