Deputy Prime Minister Boris Milosevic has strongly condemned an incident that occurred in the eastern town of Borovo on Orthodox Easter on Sunday when several dozen young men chanted "oh, my Croatian mother, we will slaughter the Serbs" and "kill the Serbs", which was posted on the town's Facebook account.

“I am appalled by these messages and strongly condemn them. Who needs to sow the seeds of hatred? They will not stop the progress of peace,” Milosevic wrote in a comment on his Facebook page.

“Today, the bells ring on the temples as the Orthodox Christians celebrate the most joyful of Christian holidays that signifies a victory of life over death, humanitarianism, peace and ecumenism. They receive greetings from their relatives, neighbours and Catholic friends who return the greetings extended a month ago. In that way we build our country together, respecting one another as was done in the past. When necessary, we help one another and keep the flame of social solidarity burning, as can be seen every day in Banovina (earthquake-struck region). We need this flame to reconnect the bonds in the communities where they were severed and look to the future together,” he said.

The Vukovar-Srijem County Police Department has confirmed that around 6.30 am on Sunday, after laying wreaths at the monument to 12 police officers killed by Serb paramilitaries 26 years ago, a group of about 20 young men went into the town chanting anti-Serb slogans. The police responded promptly, identifying the perpetrators.
