The union of digital platform workers said on Monday it did not agree with Uber's attitude to its drivers when it was late in paying their wages and that its boycott of the app was fruitful.
Speaking to the press outside Uber’s office, union secretary-general Iva Filipovic said this was the first time that Uber was this late with the payments and that the union felt the need to respond immediately by staging a boycott.
She said the boycott, which lasted from 7 to 10 am today across the country, was fruitful as many drivers did not drive, clients had to wait twice as long and paid twice as much, and their wages were paid.
Filipovic said the union members “feel like digital slaves” and despite claiming that they were partners, Uber ” is constantly washing its hands of any responsibility towards us regarding workers’ rights.”
She said the union could not contact Uber other than via the app, that they did not know who was in charge, and that they demanded dialogue.
She also announced the possibility of talks with the relevant ministries and said the union did not intend to block roads to fight for their rights.
