Former prime minister Jadranka Kosor on Thursday described as "completely wrong" double political connotations of the unconstitutional Ustasha salute "For the homeland ready", noting that it should be banned in all situations, including commemorations.
Kosor made the statement while attending a commemoration for the victims of the Ustasha-run WWII Jasenovac concentration camp.
“‘For the homeland ready’ is a salute of the Ustasha regime, it is unconstitutional and there should be no exceptions in terms of its use for commemorative purposes. If something is unconstitutional, it’s unconstitutional,” said Kosor, who paid tribute to the Jasenovac victims as a member of a delegation led by President Zoran Milanovic.
“People were killed and perfidiously massacred in this place under that salute and that’s a fact,” she said.
She also said that the double political connotations that had been introduced in Croatian politics over the past few years with regard to that salute were entirely wrong.
