Komsic took over the chairmanship from his ethnic Serb colleague in the Presidency, Milorad Dodik.

Bosnia has a three-member state Presidency with each member representing one of three major ethnic groups - the Bosniaks, the Serbs and the Croats.

The rotating chairmanship procedure is conducted in accordance with the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Presidency’s Rules of Procedure. The three members are elected to four-year terms, and the holders of chairmanship office get rotated every eight months.
