The Croatian power company HEP on Wednesday formally inaugurated the Korlat Wind Farm, which is the first wind power plant in HEP's generation portfolio.

The investment in this project exceeded 500 million kuna, the state-run electricity provider said in a press release after the inauguration was held at Korlat, near the southern town of Benkovac.

First hybrid renewable energy park

HEP will also build the 500 million kuna worth Korlat solar power plant at the same location, and the two plants will together make the first hybrid renewable energy park in Croatia.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, who attended the ceremony, said that Korlat was the first wind park in Croatia to generate electricity without using renewable power generation subsidies.

The park is expected to generate 170 GWH annually, which accounts for one percent of the annual energy consumption in Croatia, and is sufficient for supplying energy to more than 50,000 households, Plenkovic added.

The new park consists of 18 3.6 MW wind turbines, delivered and installed by the German Nordex company.

The local infrastructure for this project was built by two Croatian companies, Ing-Grad and Fractal.
