Out of the 579 people who had been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past month and hospitalised with the infection, a massive 94 percent were unvaccinated, Croatian Health Minister Vili Beros warned on Twitter on Monday.

Beros said the figures prompted him to repeat once again that getting the vaccine means a return to health and normal life.

"Protect yourselves and others and get vaccinated," he said.

The message was sent as part of the health ministry's efforts to step up the campaign promotion for vaccination against COVID-19.

So far, only 39 percent of the total population in Croatia have received at least one does of the coronavirus vaccine.
