As of 2 July, Montenegro will be on the EU's green COVID-19 list, the Montenegrin Public Health Institute said on Thursday.
That means that for the first time since mid-2020, the EU will fully open its borders to Montenegrin citizens “thanks to the favourable epidemiological situation in Montenegro.”
The Institute explained that EU member states retained the right to prescribe special requirements for foreign citizens entering their territory.
The conditions Montenegro had to meet to be on the green list was a cumulative incidence of less than 50 per 100,000 population and less than 4% of positive coronavirus tests.
The cumulative incidence in the past fortnight has been 38.95 per 100,000 population and the share of positive tests 1.39%.
The country has not yet registered the Delta variant, but supervision has been stepped up along the coast due to many tourists.
Montenegro has vaccinated one-third of its adult population against COVID. The number of active cases has fallen to 280.
Montenegro has registered almost 100,000 coronavirus cases to date, including 1,610 deaths.
