Mostar citizens protest over police brutality after video of incident goes viral

Locals in the southern Bosnian city of Mostar gathered on Monday in front of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton’s (HNK) Interior Ministry for a protest to condemn police brutality after a video of officers brutally beating a young man for violating curfew went viral.

The incident took place on Saturday evening when the police stopped Slaven Blazevic because they found him outside after the curfew introduced in light o the coronavirus pandemic.

The public strongly condemned the brutal behaviour of the two officers featured in the video.

The HNK Interior Ministry issued an apology and the officers were immediately suspended.

“Such behaviour and such persons cannot and must not have a place among police officers,” said the ministry.
