Leaders of several Opposition parliamentary parties on Tuesday expressed their reservations about an idea that lawmakers should be in priority groups for vaccination against Covid-19.

Bridge leader Božo Petrov was quite critical about the decision for organised vaccination of parliamentarians. I don’t know how they can say that lawmakers have priority over people who truly need vaccinating. To tell you the truth I would be ashamed to get vaccinated before those people who truly need it and they are the people on the front lines in the fight against Covid, said Petrov.

The head of the Green-Left bloc, Tomislav Tomašević said that he would not be happy that all groups at a higher risk and health staff had not been vaccinated first. “We will jump the line and will be privileged if we accept that invitation. If we reject it then it will be as if we are sending a poor message towards the public, particularly for those sceptics who think that the vaccine is not safe. We will discuss this in our caucus and evaluate which option is more problematic,” he said.

“I’m not the one to decide on that. I’m not an epidemiologist and I cannot judge or conduct a triage. That is a decision for the parliamentary majority. Some people may like that, others may not,” the leader of the Homeland Movement Miroslav Škoro said.

“I personally consider that there are groups that are very vulnerable but I can also agree with the theory that this is the legislature that needs to be in function,” he said, adding that we need to first see how many lawmakers will register for the vaccination.
