In a letter to President Zoran Milanovic, Prince Charles of Wales has expressed "deep sadness" because of yet another earthquake that has struck Croatia and for the tragic loss of lives in Petrinja and its surroundings, the British Embassy in Zagreb said in a press release on Thursday.
“Our hearts go out to the families of those who lost their loved ones, as well as to those who were injured or whose homes were lost,” the Prince said as carried by the British Embassy Zagreb on its Facebook profile.
“Coming in the midst of this dreadful pandemic, which I know continues to affect Croatia so cruelly, and just nine months after the earthquake which struck Zagreb, I can only imagine how desperately this latest blow will be felt,” the letter said.
The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are sending their “most heartfelt sympathy” to the people of Croatia “at such an appallingly difficult time.”
The Prince of Wales will make a personal donation to the Croatian Red Cross, which is providing aid for those affected. He did the same following the earthquake in Zagreb on 22 March.
His Royal Highness last visited Croatia in 2016.
