Croatia has become the most popular EU destination for Russians going on COVID-19 vaccination tours, with about 60 arriving every week, Vecernji List daily reported on Tuesday, adding that they can choose whether to get vaccinated in Zagreb or Pula.
The reason is simple, the daily said. In Russia, people can only get the Russian vaccine, which many EU and world countries do not recognise. Also, vaccination in Croatia is free and Russian tourists can choose among all the COVID vaccines approved by the World Health Organisation, including Johnson & Johnson, which is administered in one dose, so they do not have to come back for a second shot.
After being vaccinated, they receive a COVID certificate which allows them to travel across Europe and the world.
Russian tourist agency Russian Express introduced vaccination tours to Croatia late in September and demand has been constantly increasing. Its website highlights the tours as one of the most attractive offers.
Prior to that, many Russians travelled to Serbia to get a Western COVID vaccine. However, the COVID certificates, the single-shot J&J vaccine, an exceptionally easy procedure, and direct flights have tipped the scales in Croatia’s favour, even though they need a visa to visit.
The standard Russian Express package includes air travel to Pula or Zagreb, transfer, health insurance, and hotel accommodation, and may include transport to a vaccination point. The price for one person is €440. The agency recommends a four-day stay in case of side effects which can be used to enjoy Croatia’s tourism.
