In the past 24 hours, 23 coronavirus cases and no deaths have been registered in Slovenia, with 1.4% of tests coming back positive.

The total death toll in the country stands at 4,419.

Slovenia’s National Public Health Institute warned about the danger of the spread of coronavirus mutations, notably the far more contagious Delta variant, saying that according to European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control estimates, it would account for 90 percent of all new cases in the EU by the end of August.

The Institute said it was primarily worrying that people who received only one dose of the two-shot vaccine could catch the Delta variant, while those who received both were protected against it.

Slovenian epidemiologists also warned about the need to have as much of the population vaccinated as soon as possible to achieve collective immunity.

To date, only one-third of Slovenians have been vaccinated because many have still not opted for immunisation, despite the availability of enough vaccines.
