Croatia's network regulator Hakom has awarded 5G licences to telecoms, with bids accepted totalling 360 million kuna (€48 million), state agency Hina reported on Thursday, citing Hakom's press release.

The electronic public auction for the allocation of 5G frequencies was conducted on 12-27 July. On 12 August the procedure was finalised with the awarding of rights to use 700 MHz, 3600 MHz, and 26 GHz frequency bands.

The final amount raised in the public auction was by 60 million kuna (€8 million) higher than expected, Hakom said.

The three major bidders were the three mobile networks operating in the country – the Deutche Telekom owned Hrvatski Telekom (HT), the Austrian-owned A1 Hrvatska, and Telemach Hrvatska (previously known as Tele2). Their bids totaled 140 million kuna (€18.7 million), Hina reported.

The licenses awarded are valid for 15 years.
