This year the town of Mali Losinj on the Croatian Losinj island remained on the list of the world's top 100 green and sustainable destinations published by the Green Destination international organisation, the island town's tourist board said on Wednesday.
Mali Losinj has been on the list several years now and this year also competed in the “Culture & Communities” category with a monument to Losinj island’s shipbuilding tradition, the lugger Nerezinac, which has been restored and turned into an interpretation centre.
The vessel is now a unique tourism infrastructure, a museum in the open, the tourist board said.
The Nerezinac is a wooden sailing vessel entered into the Culture Ministry’s heritage list in 2010.
The Mali Losinj Tourist Board said two other Croatian localities were on this year’s list of the world’s top 100 green destinations – the Lika Cluster with the theme “Local products in function of sustainable destination development” in the “Localizing the destination supply chain category”, and Istria with the theme “Palud – Biodiversity protection in small-scale wetland area” in the “Nature & Ecotourism” category.
