A wildfire that broke out at Seget Gornji, inland from the southern coastal town of Trogir, around 11 am on Monday has not been fully brought under control by evening, and firefighters will continue battling the blazes into the night, the Split-Dalmatia County fire service said.
The fire has so far consumed about 400 hectares of low vegetation and some pine wood. It has been contained only in some parts, while in most parts it has not yet been placed under control. A total of 167 firefighters are on site with 47 fire trucks trying to extinguish the blaze.
The fire service said that residential buildings were not affected.
Because of the fire, landing operations at Split Airport were suspended for about an hour and flights were rerouted to Zadar or Zagreb.
