US Embassy in Zagreb strongly condemned on Tuesday the recent rally of a Croatian far-right party who expressed support for the US President Donald Trump and his policy.
“We condemn any attempt to link the United States to such hateful ideology. Such a suggestion is an affront to the memories of the 186,000 US soldiers who died in Europe fighting Nazi Germany and the many millions of innocent victims killed during World War II”, the embassy said.
About 40 members of the far-right Autochthonous Croatian Party of Rights (A-HSP) and its armed wing, the Croatian Patriotic Forces Club, lined up in Zagreb’s main square on Sunday in military formation, pledging allegiance to the country. They criticised the European Union and the Croatian government, whose policies they deemed destructive, and expressed support for President Trump.
A counter-protest was staged by about 20 members of the left-wing party Workers’ Front (RF), with the police separating the two groups.
