At the 21st Motovun Film Festival (MMF) which will be held in late July this year, the festival will partner with the city of Berlin, and a selection of films, artists, pictures and sounds related to the German capital will be screened and presented in the festival's tiny hometown in Istria.

The event is one of the most popular film festivals in Croatia and the region, known for mostly screening independent and art films from around the world, attracting droves of movie goers to the hilly town in the countryside of Istria.

“This summer Berlin will be brought to the ‘hill of films’ with a score of films, three concerts, a special exhibition, performances and street art, all taken from the streets of Berlin and brought to Motovun,” the festival’s organisers said, explaining their decision to partner up with a city instead of an entire country.

“Berlin is a lasting inspiration for film makers, and about three hundred films are shot in that city each year, with several hundred more mentioning Berlin in one way or another,” MMF organisers added.

MMF said that the city has also been mentioned by some of the most important musical acts of the past several decades, including Marlene Dietrich, David Bowie, Lou Reed, R.E.M, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Sex Pistols, U2, Pink Floyd, The Ramones, and Einstuerzende Neubauten, placing it firmly on the pop culture map.
