In 2016 the largest revenue in the retail business in Croatia was posted by the German chain Lidl, with 4 billion kuna (€540 million), putting its share in the total retail business revenue tracked by the Financial Agency (Fina) at 9.9 percent.
The total revenue in Croatian retail in 2016 was 40.4 billion kuna (€5.45 billion), or 6.4 percent up from 2015, Fina reported on Monday. The Plodine retail chain placed second, with their revenue totalling 3.9 billion, and a profit of 76.2 million kuna.
Out of some 3,000 companies registered for the retail business, around two thirds posted a profit. Lidl, which owns 93 stores around the country, was the most successful, posting a 242.2 million kuna profit, followed by Croatian-based retail chains Tommy, and Plodine.
Overall, retail businesses in 2016 had a consolidated profit of 433 million kuna (€58.4 million), or 45 percent up from 2015.
The Konzum retail chain, owned by the indebted food and retail conglomerate Agrokor, was excluded from the data released by Fina. However, in its public statement Konzum had posted a revenue of over 10 billion kuna.
