The Croatian Prime Minister, Andrej Plenkovic, said today he had not spoken to the Croatian President on the possible new measures against Serbia after their government declared the Croatian Defence Minister persona non grata in Serbia last Thursday.

The Prime Minister commented on the strained relations between Croatia and Serbia, after the commemoration of the 23 anniversary of the military Operation “Flash” in the eastern Croatian village of Okucani.

The Serbian Exterior Minister, Ivica Dacic, said earlier that “if Croatia wants a diplomatic war, it will get one.”

“This is not the kind of rhetoric to use. The use of the word “war”, whether diplomatic or otherwise, is not good. Nobody in Croatia gave statements like (the Serbian Defence Minister) Vulin’s, nobody from the Parliament desecrated the Serbian flag, that would be impossible. The statement that we are the same can not stand. We are not the same in this story, we were not the same in the 90s, and we will not be in the future,” Plenkovic said, adding that the measures taken by Croatia were very clear.

“When have we, as a government, used our relations with Serbia as an argument in our interior political quarrels? You cannot recall that,” Plenkovic said.
