The Franjo Tudjman Zagreb International Airport welcomed its millionth passenger in 2018 on Thursday, May 17, the earliest date that the milestone has been reached in airport's history.
In 2017, the millionth passenger arrived 13 days later than this year.
The millionth passenger was a woman who took a direct Emirates flight from Zagreb to Dubai. To mark the occasion, the airport presented her with a gift voucher for the Aelia Dutyfree store at the airport, and Emirates with two return tickets to Dubai.
“We are particularly glad that the system recorded our millionth passenger this year on a flight to Dubai, because the Emirates airline, since its arrival in Zagreb in June last year, has significantly contributed to the increase in traffic that the airport has been continuously recording ever since the new terminal was opened,” said Huseyin Bahadir Bedir, member of the management board of the International Zagreb Airport (MZLZ) company.
He added that, since the opening of its new terminal in March 2017, the airport logged record high volumes of cargo and passenger traffic, increased the number of airlines serving the airport, added new routes and destinations, and had excellent scores in passenger satisfaction surveys.
In the annual Airport Service Quality survey, conducted globally by the Airport Council International – a trade organisation of world’s airport authorities – Zagreb Airport won the 2017 Most Improved Airport in Europe award.
“Emirates is exceptionally satisfied with the response of Croatian travellers since it launched the direct Zagreb-Dubai flight,” said the Emirates airline’s Area Manager for Croatia, Martin Gross.
Emirates started the direct route in June 2017, operating five weekly flights using its Boeing 777-300 aircraft, carrying 364 passengers on each flight.
“Our support for the occasion of welcoming the airport’s millionth passenger reflects our commitment to the Croatian market,” Gross added.
