Another case of measles was recorded in Croatia on Wednesday, after the Croatian Public Health Institute (HZJZ) notified Croatia Airlines (CA) that one of their flight attendants had contracted the disease.
A female member of Croatia Airlines crew, in her forties, was not vaccinated as a child due to other health reasons, and it is possible she contracted the disease at work, in the plane from one of the passengers, or abroad, Vecernji List daily reported early on Friday.
She was released from hospital after receiving medical care.
This is the second case of measles in Croatia, after a patient, hospitalised in Dubrovnik earlier this week, was diagnosed with the disease.
The head of the Croatian Cabin Crew Union, Suzana Artukovic-Vuksan, said that cabin crews are exposed to various illnesses because they work in a small, closed space with a large number of people.
Croatia Airlines immediately upon receiving the information from HZJZ that one of their crew had contracted measles, sent their employees guidelines on the symptoms and a reminder on the preventative measures.
Threat of a possible epidemic is continuously present in Croatia, because measles appear sporadically or continuously in an epidemic form. The cabin crew was warned that, if a person who was not vaccinated comes into contact with an infected person, the likelihood of contracting the disease is great, making it possible that they would spread the infection after their return to Croatia.
According to data compiled by Croatia’s public health institute (HZJZ), the danger of possible outbreaks does exist, with the most threatened areas in Split-Dalmatia and Dubrovnik-Neretva counties in the south, where the vaccination rate are the lowest in the country.
