Police stop van carrying Afghan migrants in Zagreb

A Serbian national was arrested in the Zagreb Tresnjevka district on Thursday who carried 11 Afghan nationals in a van with German licence plates, the Zagreb police reported on Friday.

The police stopped a Mercedes Vito van with German licence plates at 1.45am on Thursday in the Tresnjevka district.

The driver and passengers attempted to escape, but were prevented and the police officers brought the 47-year-old driver and the 11 Afghan nationals to the police station for questioning, the press release from the Zagreb police said.

The Serbian national will be remanded in custody under suspicions of illegally entering Croatia.
