Car sales up by 17 percent over first five months of 2018

More than 29,000 new cars were sold in Croatia in the first five months of 2018, or 17.2 percent up from the same period the year before. In May alone more than 8,700 vehicles were sold, up by 7.8 percent year-on-year, Promocija Plus market research agency reported on Tuesday.

In the period from January to May, the best-selling car brand was Volkswagen, with more than 3,800 cars sold, followed by Renault (nearly 3,200) and Opel (almost 3,100).

By model, the most popular in May were Renault Clio (714 units sold), followed Skoda Octavia (368) and Opel Astra (349). The three German luxury car manufacturers, Audi and Mercedes sold 219 vehicles each, with BMW selling two more.

Traditional petrol-fuelled cars had a 55.6 percent share of all sales over the first five months of 2018, with diesel-powered cars at 42.3 percent. Hybrids and electric cars continue to post modest sales figures, selling around 350 units over the same period.
